Making our future brighter.
Today is Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the celebration of the end of a system that exploited a group of people purely for socio-economic gains. On June 15th, Congress voted to make June 18th a Federal holiday, a day in which we can remember the contributions of the American slaves to the economic foundation of the United States of America.
This day has long been overlooked by those who would rather turn a blind eye to the raging injustices of the past. This long-overdue holiday, Juneteenth is the celebration of our freedom from physical and psychological pain. This legislation may also help to correct certain educational, spiritual, and economic inequalities.
A celebration of the Juneteenth holiday will help to increase our self-awareness. It may help us to understand where we’re from and how we can to be a part of this nation. This holiday is a decisive turning point in our history. It could be the catalyst for other well-needed changes in the socio-economic and political systems of the United States of America.
Understanding the meaning of Juneteenth is to understand our value, our strength, and our future.
