Happy Father’s Day! It’s something we say each year to offer warm wishes to our faithful fathers. But for 5 children in Houston, Texas; this father’s day will not be so happy.
On this special day, we pray for the children of George Floyd as they discover what’s it’s like to navigate this world without a father, a protector and a best friend. Our heavenly father, we ask you to help them to be forgivers in an unjust and unfair world. We ask you to protect them and allow them to see Your bigger plan as difficult as that might be.
Let us not forget the future fathers of this country. Help them to understand that only peace can bring about peace and that anything else but peace will only ignite a fire that will continuously burn in the hearts and hard places of this America.
While the Floyd children may no longer have an earthly father, they will always have an heavenly father to watch over them and to help them as they journey through this maze we call life. Just as our earthly father protects us, so will our heavenly father. So, to the youngest member of the Floyd family, I say, Gianna Floyd your heavenly father will always be there to guide and protect you.
On behalf of the Red Oak United Methodist Church staff, our Pastors and the Congregation, we extend a hearty Father’s Day to the family of George Floyd and to those families who stand fatherless because of systematic injustices and misguided practices; practices for which we’ve too painfully become accustomed.
But most of all we thank you for those father’s who have been spared to celebrate this Father’s Day with their families. Happy Father’s day Faithful Father’s of Red Oak.
